My thoughts about the revolutions going on in the world.
So... It's friday night, #feb25 2011 in The Netherlands. On my television Uma Thurman kicks major ass in Kill Bill 2.
I love it .Because I know the violence is not real. But..
In a great part of the world , real people are kicking major ass to free themselves from tyranny, violence, torture, slavery and imperialist policies. Sometimes, like in Libya, those policies were hidden behind a fake revolutionary curtain.
Sure, Gaddafi may have been an upright revolutionary in his younger days to some of us. I don't know,I was too young back then to be the judge of that.
But it doesn't matter anymore. Whatever he was or pretended to be, I NOW see a fake ass socialist who has turned into a reckless tyrant, giving orders to kill innocent civilians, using weaponry, military equipment and ammunition, for a major part sold to him by so-called freedom loving countries. Countries like the one I live in. If you've been shot at at night recently in Libya, you must realize that we gave Gaddafi's troops their nightvision.
Our former Dutch prime minister Balkenende once asked the Dutch to be proud of the "VOC-mentality." Google that: VOC. And make your own conclusions. I can assure you that nothing really changed since that time.
Except it's a mentality, a concept, that's been adapted by the "free world" on a much broader scale. Ask someone like John Perkins, or Naomi Klein. It's currently referred to as "the empire" or "globalization." Some people even dare to call it freedom. Or warn us against Islamist uprisings, to spread fear and to protect their interests and lobby's, while obviously the Arab peoples just want to be free to express themselves.
On the internet I read about current developments regarding Libya.
All American diplomats have gone from #Libya .I wonder what happens next. Some people demand an invasion by the US or NATO.
An invasion to "restore freedom" won't help, see Iraq, see Afghanistan. Those invasions were never about freedom. Unless freeloading for the elites is the definition of freedom.
The only thing that actually WILL help is this: the people of the world, and I mean everybody who really gives a damn, should start with disrupting, and in the end dismantling the existing political, financial, economic system and military-industrial complex.
The means and tools to use may differ by moment, personality, circumstances and country. But if you look into your heart, you will understand what's the right thing to do.
If it takes a vote in elections: DO investigate whether that choice is going to be a vote in favor of structural change instead of window dressing, charming smiles and smooth photo ops. The Dutch, at least a great part of them, know exactly what I am talking about. But we act very slowly on that.We don't want to hurt any of our interests if not necessary, do we.
If it takes a revolution: make sure you are REALLY prepared to give everything it takes to be free, and whether you really know who to trust or not. In geopolitical sense, and locally in your own streets.Ask the brave Egyptians, Tunisians, Moroccans, Yemenites, Palestinians, Iraqis, and Bahrainis. Don't throw away old tech, like landline phones.
If it takes union strikes: be bold like the French and the Greeks; but also be ready to negotiate (but don't let them turn your wine into water, like the Dutch often do ;-) ), and be brave like the union activists in Wisconsin, USA.
If it takes meditation: empty your head, and let your soul fly free like a bird. But don't confuse an empty head with ignorance.
If it takes anonymous online activism: make sure you know the right targets.Use your skills for what your heart tells you is right.
If you are an artist: Use music and art.
Dance.
If it takes defying slavery to banksters: Ask the Icelandic people how to do it. Or move your money to banks that don't invest in weapon producing companies, GMO's etc.
If you ARE free: help the others. Don't expect anything in return, just do it because you have a human heart that feels pain, hate and, most important, love, just like their heart does.
They will at some point return the favor though, somehow, somewhere, when you least expect it.
At that point revolution turns into evolution.
This could be the future. Their future. Our future. If we really want it.
